1. SIA: Global semiconductor sales up 2.3% Month-to-Month in July

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) recently announced that global semiconductor sales in July 2023 totaled $43.2 billion, an increase of 2.3% from the total of $42.2 billion in June 2023, but a decrease of 11.8% from the total of $49 billion in July 2022

“The global semiconductor market has experienced modest but steady month-to-month growth this year, with sales increasing for the fourth consecutive month in July,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. “Global sales remain down compared to last year, but the year-to-year decrease in July was the smallest gap of the year to date, providing reason for optimism over the remainder of 2023 and beyond.”

By region, monthly sales increased the most in the Americas (6.3%), China (2.6%), Europe (0.5%), and decreased slightly in Japan (-0 ,first%)

2. Amkor’s new factory in Vietnam will start operations in October

Global outsourced semiconductor packaging and test services provider Amkor announced on September 1 that its new factory in Yen Phong, Industrial Park, Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam will start operations in October. The new factory has system-in-package (SiP), Storage packaging and some test production lines.

The new factory, which started construction in 2022, will be one of the largest factories operated by Amkor globally, covering an area of more than 176,500 square meters, and is second only to Amkor’s South Korean factory.

In addition, Amkor will invest approximately $1.6 billion until 2035 to build a state-of-the-art facility in Bac Ninh. As of now, Amkor has a total of 17 packaging and testing factories in China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines and Portugal.

According to reports, Amkor is the third American semiconductor company to set up a packaging and testing factory in Vietnam after Onsemi and Intel.

3. Murata completes new production building in Vietnam

Murata Manufacturing Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Da Nang, Vietnam), a manufacturing subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., has completed the construction of a new production building that began in June 2022. The completion ceremony was held today.

The new production building has a total investment of 4.32 billion yen, a total construction area of 5,486 square meters, and a total floor area of 22,637 square meters. It will be mainly used for the production of coil products.

According to Murata, the new production building will provide the necessary infrastructure to meet the growing demand for inductance coils for automobiles and electronic equipment with mid- to long-term production capacity.
