Toshiba - TLP5222 : Photocoupler – Smart Gate Driver optical coupler IC helps simplify peripheral circuit design for electrical equipment

The TLP5222 series from Toshiba is a photocoupler with a photo-IC output, designed to provide electrical isolation and control for power devices such as IGBTs and MOSFETs. 

With a peak output current of up to 2.5A, the TLP5222 efficiently drives high-power devices. It continuously monitors the drain-source voltage (VDS) or the collector-emitter voltage (VCE). 

Thanks to its multifunctionality, the device incorporates an integrated overcurrent detection feature and protection mechanism, capable of detecting any rise in VDS or VCE. It supports an isolation voltage of 5000 Vrms, ensuring robust electrical safety and effective isolation between circuit components, thereby preventing electrical failures. 

Additionally, Toshiba’s photocoupler comes equipped with a built-in auto-recovery function. This feature resets the device to normal operation within 25.5μs (typical) after the protection mechanism is triggered, simplifying control system sequencing. Its fault detection and response capabilities effectively notify the controller of overcurrent conditions, preventing short circuits in power devices.
