1. IC Insights: Top 10 Semiconductor Manufacturers Hold 57% of Global Semiconductor Market Share

In 2021, the top 10 global semiconductor manufacturers (excluding companies mainly based on foundry production without chip design) held a 57% market share in the worldwide semiconductor market, according to IC Insights. Among the leading 50 semiconductor suppliers worldwide in 2021, they accounted for 89% of the total $614.6 billion semiconductor market value, marking an increase of 8 percentage points from their combined 81% market share in 2010. In 2021, 5 out of the top 10 semiconductor suppliers were chip manufacturers. All top 10 semiconductor suppliers had revenues of at least $16.4 billion in 2021.

2. STMicro CEO: Chip Demand to Exceed Group Capacity Throughout 2022

The CEO of STMicroelectronics has stated that the demand for semiconductors will surpass the capacity of STMicroelectronics for the remainder of 2022. This situation arises due to disruptions caused by COVID-19 and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine casting a shadow over the industry. The company’s sales and operations have indicated that STMicro’s capacity has remained consistently above 90% throughout the remaining duration of the year.

3. Global Semiconductor Sales Increase by 23% in Q1 2022 Compared to 2021

According to the latest report from the SIA, global semiconductor sales in the first quarter of 2022 reached $151.7 billion, representing a 23.0% increase compared to the first quarter of 2021, but a 0.5% decrease compared to Q4 2021. Global semiconductor revenue in March 2022 was $50.6 billion, marking a 1.1% increase from the previous month.
